Bird Hunting
Heart's Bluff Game Ranch is a prime destination for quail and duck hunting. More than 3,000 bobwhite quail were released onto the property for breeding, and we spotted our first chicks in late May of 2005. Our efforts to bring back these magnificent birds are paying off while much of East Texas is seeing a decline in quail extending over the last few decades. We have prime native vegetation as well as planted and mowed strips maintained especially for these birds. We plan to supplement birds as needed to assure our hunters' success.
Heart's Bluff has created a mosaic of wetlands that provides waterfowl with the best possible habitat. In 2004 we constructed a 14 acre duck marsh and completed a 40 acre duck marsh 2005. In addition to our marshes, we have numerous lakes, sloughs, and oxbows to ensure a variety of habitat choices for migratory waterfowl. To assure the future of Hearts Bluff Game Ranch, we established state controlled waterfowl preserves on the ranch. These designated refuses cannot be hunted. Birds have a safe haven in which to breed and mature, all within the borders of the ranch.
Hunters are encouraged to bring their own dogs for quail and duck hunting. Or, we can coordinate a fully guided bird hunt that includes experienced guides who will handle dogs for you.
Breeding, preservation, harvest, the cycle is complete and balanced at Hearts Bluff. Our conservation efforts are practical and useful and assure a long future of successful hunting in East Texas.
